How To Build Your Own Wind Turbine Make Electricity For Home

By Dave

homemade -wind-turbineWhy you need to build your own wind turbine for home? Wind turbine usage is on the rise due to the increase in cost of electricity. Alternative energy sources such as wind turbines don’t cause any harm to the environment as coal and other traditional resources do.

To build a wind turbine you will need to strategically design and either purchase or find recycled materials for your components. Before deciding to DIY wind turbine you should first consider the location of your turbine. A wind turbine is most efficient in a clear area that receives a vast amount of direct wind. The following materials are required to build a standard wind turbine.

Below I will list each material needed and a short guide on how to go about building each one.

Batteries: You will need (depending on your wind turbine size) 4-10 heavy duty batteries. These should be in a location that can be accessed easily for monitoring and check-up. Since your home uses AC energy, you will need an inverter to convert the incoming DC current from your wind turbine.

Hub: This will serve as a material for your blades to rotate upon freely. A stainless steel material in a circular shape is ideal for this.

Body: Many wind turbine builders recommend using the stainless steel chimney pipe as it is durable and long lasting. This material can easily be found at recycling locations such as junkyards for a very small cost.

Blades: The blades of your wind turbine are the main component and are what decides whether you will be creating any energy or not. Many recommend a lightweight plastic or wood such as cedar due to their mobility within a wind.

Tail: The tail keeps your wind turbine directed so that it may receive wind sufficiently. Both the body and tail are recommended to me made from the same materials as they will be connected.

Diode: The diode is an often overlooked part that is highly useful when building your own wind turbine. It is a small meter which allows you to monitor which direction current is flowing. Your current should always be flowing towards your batteries not your wind turbine.

Tower: What will raise your blades high above the ground, clearing any objects blocking wind passages? Many have found television towers ideal for this as they can be found them for very small costs and are very durable.

Motor: A small DC rated motor is required for your wind turbine. It should also be rated for a low rotation speed (RPM) and high current so that it may produce energy efficiently.

Following these tips and working hard on build your own wind turbine will really pay off in both the short and long run. Reduce your electricity bill and remove your dependency from environmentally dangerous coal companies.
